The Texas Medical Center started with a dream to create a medical center, where people from all walks of life could have access to the best health care anywhere - whether they were rich, poor, famous, alone, young, or old. All 47 of institutions of the Texas Medical Center are not-for-profit, and are dedicated to the highest standards of patient care, research, and education. These institutions include 13 renowned hospitals and two specialty institutions, two medical schools, four nursing schools, and schools of dentistry, public health, pharmacy, and virtually all health-related careers. It is where one of the first, and still the largest, air ambulance service was created; a very successful inter-institutional transplant program was developed; and more heart surgeries are performed than anywhere else in the world.

At Rice, undergraduates at all levels participate in cutting-edge research with world-class faculty in the humanities, social sciences, engineering and natural sciences. Premier architecture and music professors enhance classroom experiences with their exceptional talent and artistry. A Rice education offers personal involvement and excellence in programs that prepare graduates for a changing world.

Hermann Park, presented to the City of Houston by George Hermann in 1914, is one of Houston's most historically significant public spaces. Over the years, the Houston Zoo, Miller Outdoor Theatre, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Houston Garden Center, and the Hermann Park Golf Course all have added to the Park's importance as a recreational destination. The Conservancy continues to build upon its successful working partnership with the City of Houston whereby Conservancy funds and manages the design of projects to be undertaken in the Park, and then shares the construction cost of these projects with the City. In the last ten years, under this award-winning partnership, HPC and the City have spent over $40 million to enhance andrestore Hermann Park.
